The Cave of Swallows
This fascinating "deep natural" is in the Mexican town of Aquismón. Is considered the most beautiful cave in the world upright. It has a depth of 510 meters with a diameter of 60 meters at its narrowest and 300 meters at its bottom. It is very popular among fans of free fall.
The cave (karst origin) was formed by water erosion in a waterproof failure of a limestone plateau. Is tapered outer opening being its markedly narrower than inside.
The cave is a natural refuge for birds. Contrary to what its name implies there are swallows here. Its name comes from the existence of a variety of Swifts which are often confused with swallows. The cave is also home to a species of parrots (Aratinga holochlora) and other birds. The cave is an excellent breeding site for birds since the geography of the place keeps its natural predators away.
From its 510 meters, 376 of them are a free fall. The descent into this underworld film starts at dawn with the spectacle of the flight of thousands of swifts and parrots coming out of the spiral cave with mathematical precision. To have a dimension of this wonderful place, it is estimated that the bottom of the basement is the size of three football fields and vertically be amply the Eiffel Tower.
This orographic was released in 1976 by a team of ornithologists from the University of Texas, who were conducting a study in the region.
Despite initial interest purely scientific, the grave soon began to attract cavers in search of interesting experiences, and then to tourists.
In my personal opinion the show is beautiful to give these birds every morning and every aterdecer, see those thousands of birds swirling out, then there a special place to camp and to wait and cash them so dawn to see.
Many people go and do extreme sports, in my opinion they never would do to me very scary.
